Meet Digital Marketing

2010 – Digital Marketing/Social Media Marketing/Mobile/Social. These are the hot words. The hot trends. The newest ways of meeting the customer where customer is most likely to engage. interact. respond.

What’s not so exciting anymore? Copywriting. Marketing. Ideas. Insight.

For the 25 year old young professional looking to get into the industy, ecel in the field, rise to the top of the company, what skills do you need? MBA? Computer Design? Marketing Technology must be an emerging field and I need to figure out what I need to do to become a “marketing technologist,” i.e. understand creative direction while also having a sense of what the capabilities are.

MeetHumanized Technology

 http://www.wired.com/magazine/2010/11/st_thompson_emotionalgadget/

Came across this article and made me wonder about living like in this digital revolution. Beverly Woolf, an “artificial-intelligence* computer scientist, suggests “I think that all of our software and hardware would work better if it understtod our moods. We need an emo revolution in high tech.”

  • emotion-sensing software – decides if its a good moment to interrupt you or if your email alert should be postponted.
  • GPS software in phone – detects if you’re at a place that is not condusive for phone calls
  • mp3 plaers that adapt a playlist based on your mood

and some of my ideas…

  • ability to fast forward thru messages
  • signify color of text as Urgent/Just Saying Hello/Need Response ASAP/In your Area and Want to Say Hi/Send me info..that way you can know if its worth it to check, open, and read the message
  • longer voice-note capability

Is the digitally dominated offensive interrupting or alleviating? Puncturing or connecting?  More informed or more confused?

Connection Technologies. The way I see it: we had the internet – youtube – facebook -twitter. Repressed peoples in countries of centralized government start using these mediums to vocalize and mobilize. Companies and brands starting to use information technology/communications to interact with customers and improve branding and interaction. At the same time, renewable energy is becoming more popular. It is being used to help improve our environment and at the same time improve international development activities. Technology and Renewable Energy forces are deployed by the rich to make things more efficient and improve communications/environmental concerns, and then by the poor or the underserved, to improve standards of life and create efficiencies for rescue.

So Where Do You Want to Focus Your Energies? What kind of training do you need to get in on this fast pace, ever-changing, constantly evolving emergence of Tech  and Energy in a world that is getting smaller, more interconnected, and more dependable on innovation for change?

MeetA Job Not Taken

I have been looking for work for about 3-4 months. I start 2 weeks ago with a big advertising agency with a COO who is genius, creative and focused. 2 days later I get a call to interview with a big real estate developer about managing the new jewelry district building — that screams Real Estate + Gems. Bigger salary and benefits but for some reason I don’t think that is my calling. I mean, I won’t be wearing the gems. But how am I to know that I am not making a mistake?

MeetTechtomakeADifference

irevolution.wordpress.com written by Patrick Meier, focuses on Information Communication Technology, specifically talking about projects like Ushahidi’s crowdsourcing mapping platform promotes more distributed, real-time information on situational awareness in conflict situations. It is all about using technology to make the world a better place. This one — focuses on people in areas of conflict, getting them the tools and the resources to communicate and disseminate info to the necessary responders.

On a Google Blog Post a few months ago, a group of ICT professionals got together to talk about how to use technology to increase energy efficiency. Here too, I applaud the leaders of Intel and other technology giants, for taking responsibility to look at the global picture. We need to be informed so that we can make informed decisions. i.e. a tool on our refrigerators which help us to monitor how much electricity we are using. NOBODY understands their ConEd Bills. Can’t we have a better way to measure the amount of electricity we are (most of the time) wasting so that we will all be MUCH more careful about our usage?

MeetSaulSinger

Saul Singer: Author of StartUp Nation — my personal catalyst for obsessing over Israeli technology. I had the chance to hear him speak at Tel Aviv University, with a panel of CEO’s and entrepreneurs from the dozens that he wrote about in his book.

I reconnected with him after attending American Friends of Hebrew University conference about Israeli tech.

Hi Saul,

I hope you are well. With the thousands of people you meet, I am not sure if you remember me so I will re-introduce myself – Jill Levenfeld introduced us when I was living in Israel and interning at Better Place. You mentioned to me on the phone that you were interested in creating a “tour” for visitors from all over the world to learn about the new technologies happening in Israel today. I wanted to share with you some insight from a conference I recently attended hosted by the American Friends of Hebrew University, which brought together lawyers and investors interested in learning about what was happening in the “StartUp Nation” today. I am working with a non-profit, Jewish Heart for Africa, which brings Israeli technology to African villages, and so I was invited to attend.
Dr. Giora Yaron, a successful Israeli entrepreneur who you most certainly know, and Yaron samid, founding chairman of Tech Aviv, gave a brief history of trends in Israeli innovation since the 1970’s through today. They spoke about the challenges of being in a “dot.com” decade where the smartest of the Technion graduates are not interested anymore in working with defense and security technologies, but with creating the next Twitter and Facebook. They also mentioned the challenge of R&D centers moving to India and China and how successful Israeli startups are bought by big corporations and then those CEO’s leave Israel. Lastly, they commented on the need for Israeli startups to not only have financing for the beginning of their projects, but for later stage financing as well.
The common reaction from this crowd of prominent lawyers and businessmen was – how do we find out about this technology so that we can invest and make deals with Israeli companies.
The answer seems clear that there needs to be a way that people can learn about what is happening in Israel, visit the different companies, be connected with the newest startups, etc.
I know that you mentioned this as an idea a few months back – I just wanted to reach out to you and say that sitting in a room with people interested in helping StartUp Nation continue to see success, there is a demand for a way to better understand what is happening in Israel here in the US.
Hope all is well.
Shabbat Shalom!
Best,
Lianna Wolfson

Lianna —

Thanks for getting back in touch with me. Yes, I’ve moved ahead with Start-Up Nation Tours! The web site just went up — www.startupnationtours.com . I’m copying Steve Zerobnick from Keshet, the great touring company that is putting this together. Steve should be in touch with you to find out more about this conference and to get the word out to the American Friends of Hebrew U. Also, maybe we can do something with Jewish Heart for Africa since we are interested in showing the social entrepreneurship side of Israel.
Again, very glad that you reached out and we should think more on how to follow up on this.

MeetNewsweek Editor

I have a thing about striking up conversations with the people that pass me by at Starbucks, on train rides, and even people meant to be talking to me about other things…I just like to ask questions. I think it is because I come from a family of therapists – my father is a psychiatrist and my sister is now becoming a psychologist…and I grew up in a house of 3 girls and so it was chat. chat. chat. all. the. time. while I wanted to choose my own  professional path, I can’t help but just liking to ask questions.

So I was huddling over my gmat book one friday afternoon when a lovely man in a classy suit peered over and explained that he could never have done that math – I was sure he was a lawyer or hedge fund type, with his perfectly press suit and intellectual glance but actually, he is an editor for Newsweek and seemed to want to ask questions just like I do. Maybe journalism has been the ticket for me the  whole time?

Her Specialties: lentil soup, eggplant,  challah, home-made granola, coffee-choc chip cookies, roasted-chicken tied at the legs with string.
Her MO: Somehow transcends the silliness of drama or gossip even amidst girls. She stands for me as a symbol of a genuinely intelligent and curious creature, focused on her profession, and enthused by sitting at a delicious restaurant with a person with whom she thoroughly enjoys her conversation. No obligations No wasted time. She follows her passion in the most focused and professional way I’ve ever witnessed.
